"The Sparks of the Sun"
Lon’s current project is based on an old California legend from the Chumash Indians. The Indians believed that the sun carries a torch of tightly rolled bark to light the world. After his daily journey across the sky, he snaps his torch to throw sparks which are the stars and planets in the night sky.

For a month, Lon spent every day in an Idaho Falls quarry sizing the stone down enough to transport it to California. He spent countless hours cutting and using dynamite to reduce it from its original 60 tons to 26 tons. After it arrived in California, he spent more time shaping it, and it now weighs in around 18 tons. When this project is complete in the summer of 2007, it will be on display in Agoura Hills, Thousands Oaks.
